How to Add a QR Code Menu to a Website You Already Have

how-torestaurants

A lot of QR code menu guides assume you're starting from zero, but plenty of businesses already have a website with a perfectly good menu page — they just need a physical QR code that gets customers there. If that's you, this is the simpler path.

Step 1: Find your menu page's exact URL

Not your homepage — the actual menu page, if you have one, or wherever the closest thing to a menu lives. If your menu is buried three clicks deep in navigation, a QR code that drops customers on the homepage and makes them hunt for it isn't much better than no QR code at all. Ideally link directly to the menu.

Step 2: Check that it actually works well on a phone

Before generating a QR code, open that URL on your own phone, on cellular data, not WiFi. If it's a PDF, does it load reasonably fast and read well zoomed to fit the screen? If it's a page built years ago for desktop, does the layout actually adapt, or does it require constant horizontal scrolling? A QR code just gets someone to the page — it doesn't fix a page that's unpleasant to use once they're there.

Step 3: Generate a QR code pointing at that URL

This part is genuinely simple — any QR code generator turns a URL into a scannable code. What matters more is testing it (scan it yourself, on cellular data) and printing it at a size and contrast that's easy to scan in your actual lighting conditions, not a lab setting.

When it's worth switching to a dedicated menu page instead

If your existing site's menu is a PDF, is hard to update, or just wasn't built with a phone screen in mind, it's worth weighing a dedicated menu builder against continuing to patch the old page. You don't have to decide that today, though — a QR code pointing at what you already have is a completely reasonable starting point, and switching later doesn't cost you anything you've already built.

GoFastQR supports both paths from the same free tier: generate a QR code that redirects straight to your existing site, or switch to the guided menu builder later if you decide you want one. Neither path locks you into the other.
